  • I just want to make you laugh..

I am not feeling so well today. Having a slight fever. It was a hectic weekend, travelling to and fro my sis-in-law’s place because my parents-in-law are here, plus wrong timing of the month. So..I was kind of moody today..

Little J was having his chocolate cup cake and I was reading a book. He came over to me, put the dirty spoon on his nose and his face was smeared with chocolate. I got mad and scolded him for messing the floor and dirty himself.. He bursted into tears and said, ” Mommy, I was just trying to look funny. I just want to make you laugh, to make you happy because you look so sad today. Why do you have to scold me?”

I hugged him immediately and said sorry to him. I helped him washed his face and hands and he starts running about and playing as if nothing has happened. Ya, I have to learn from him, to learn how to forgive and forget…

  • A couple of days ago, I was having this interesting conversation with a medical doctor. He owns a private clinic and business is good. Can you imagine opening the clinic at 8.30am every morning and closes at 11pm? When I say, every morning, it means including Sat and Sun! Wow.. he must be seeing.. at least 50 patients in a day!

He arrogantly told me that he is earning tons of money and would not need any extra income or side business opportunity. Then I asked him a question. If you are seeing 50 patients a day, from each patient, you made a profit of RM20, so you will be earning RM1000 per day, right? He said yes. Then I asked, can you increase your income potential by seeing 100 patients a day so that your daily income increase double to RM2000? He paused for a while and replied a “No”. Hmm.. is he admitting that his income potential is limited?

Then finally I asked him, “Dr, can you close your clinic for a month, and yet still get income coming in?” What do you think his answer was?

  • I just completed reading the book Leadership Gold by John C. Maxwell, thanks to my business partner, Raymond Tan for giving me the book. I completed the book in 52 days although the Author recommends that we complete this 26 Chapters book in 52 weeks! As I read through the book, I found this chapter “Don’t Send Your Ducks To Eagle School” most interesting.

Have you ever led people who never did rise up and fulfill your expectations? No matter how much you motivated them, trained them, provided them with resources, or gave them opportunities, they just didn’t perform according to your expectations?

That’s because you are asking a Duck to fly like an Eagle. Let’s face it. Ducks are not supposed to be eagles - nor do they want to become eagles. WHO THEY ARE IS WHO THEY SHOULD BE. Ducks have their strength and should be appreciated for them. They are EXCELLENT swimmers. They are capable of working together in an amazing display of TEAMWORK and travel LONG DISTANCES together. Ask an Eagle to swim or to migrate thousands of miles, and it’s going to be in trouble.

Leadership is all about placing people in the RIGHT place so they can be successful. As a leader, you need to know and value your people for WHO they are and let them work according to their strengths. There’s nothing wrong with Ducks. Just don’t ask them to soar or hunt from a high altitude. It’s NOT what they do.

All people have strengths they can use to contribute. Successful leaders help their people discover theirs. As a leader, you should always challenge people to move out of their COMFORT zone, but never out of their STRENGTH zone. If people moved out of their strength zone, they soon won’t be in any kind of zone - comfort, strength or effectiveness.

If you haven’t read this book, go get one. It will help you a lot in your work place, if you are currently a leader in your organization.

  • I just checked Public Mutual fund price and whoosh…what a downtrend..  it’s an excellent time to invest in unit trust, a great oppotunity to create another source of income. Didn’t we study at Economic school that we should buy low and sell high?

Thanks to my mentor, T. Harv Eker, the author of Secrets of the Millionnaire Mind, for the tips, don’t wait to buy but buy and wait..

Calling my unit trust agent now.. wink wink

  • “Many overweight children and teenagers could have severe cardiovascular disease in their 20s and 30s, causing a healthcare crisis”

The arteries of many obese children and teenagers are as thick and stiff as those of 45-year-olds, a sign that such children could have severe cardiovascular disease at a much younger age than their parents unless their condition is reversed, researchers said.

    More details here.

Parents, watch what your children eats!

  • More job cut

Citigroup is cutting approximately 53,000 jobs, reducing headcount by amazingly 20%!! Read here for details. Closer to home, Singapore DBS bank, which is also South East Asia biggest bank is cutting 900 jobs, reducing 6% of their staff. Read here.

I dread to think for the family of those who suddenly become jobless although working for world-class banks .. who’s going to pay for their loans, who’s going to pay for their children’s education.. most important of all, who is going to pay for their food..

All I can say is.. treat this as a bad experience for trading your time with money, making a linear income where once your job is cut, your income stops! It’s never too late to start working towards a Residual Income, where you work only ONCE and get paid over and over!

  • Strong, unpleasant smell?

I was teaching Little J names of all kinds of vegetables and fruits using Smartbees, an E-Learning program which I subscribed for the children. Then I would use Besta, the electronic dictionary to explain to him the meaning of the words. Besta uses Oxford Advance Learner’s Dictionary and look at how Oxford defines Durian, my favorite fruit.

“A large tropical fruit with a strong unpleasant smell but a sweet flavour”

Unpleasant smell? To the Oxford publisher perhaps but to me, it has a very pleasant smell.. so goes the saying, “Beauty lies in the eyes of its beholder”..
