090909, Of Coffee and Comments

Today’s date sounds so auspicious. Well, it only happens once in most of our lifetimes, unless we live for another century.. I am not a superstitious person but I got a good feeling that today is a good day.. Because for the first time since my maid left, hubby finishes the coffee I make for him…hahahaha…. Our morning dialogue had been like this for the past week.

Me : Eh.. darling.. do you still want the coffee ? (only half cup drunk)

Day 1 answer :

Hubby : Errr.. can’t finish.. I am in a hurry..

Day 2 answer :

Hubby : Errr… not much appetite today..

Day 3 answer :

Hubby : I am full liao, can’t finish..

I was like… eh..how come he never finishes the coffee I make for him.. Doesn’t he like the taste??

So yesterday, I pestered him to speak the truth… Apparently he felt that the coffee was not “thick” enough.. And he didn’t want to hurt my feelings by saying that the coffee was not tasty… So this morning, I added another half spoon of coffee and the taste was excellent!

Unlike hubby, I have always preferred people to comment my cooking, my attire etc. From the straightforward comments only then I can improve myself, constructive comments that is. There are people whom I have come across giving “sarcastic” comments. You can really tell or feel it if the comment is sincere or a person just want to put you down. How about you? Would you want to be told that your cooking is terrible, your attire sucks, your house is poorly designed..etc..etc..

Hazy days are making me crazy!

I really hate, hate haze! It’s been so bloody hazy for the past one week. Haze aggravates Big J’s allergy, haze causes Little J to have severe runny nose! That is despite me having a air purifier in their room and my living room.

Haze makes all my clothes smell like charcoal! It’s about time that I get a cloth dryer.. I drag to imagine what the haze will do to our lungs in the long run. And poor kids have to stay indoor all the time! Haze has been a “loyal” visitor for the past 15 years, as far as I can recall. What are the authorities going to do something? Or can they do anything at all? Probably it’s time that we seriously take a look at that greener pasture, faraway from haze. :(

Spouse Abuse

A couple of days ago, I learnt that a very, very close family member is filing for divorce after enduring her abusive husband for 25 years. There was never any sign of her being physically abused and she had been suffering in silence. I learnt that on days when she was severely abused, she would not come out from her house and will not visit other family members for at least a month, to nurse her bruises. That explains why we never saw her severe bruises although we did see some minor bruises which she claimed that she fell or knocked on something.

While I am still trying to get over the story of my close family member’s domestic abuse, I was told another story involved another family member this morning. This time, it is the wife who abuses the husband. What shocked me was that the abused husband is a professional, a medical doctor to be exact and the wife is a teacher. Both were living in Australia and had come back to Malaysia for good. It is really unbelievable! He has since filed for divorce and has moved on.

I can’t imagine the feeling of living in fear with someone whom you love dearly, whom you have the trust and looking forward to spend the rest of your life with and has overnight become a monster. It is a myth that domestic abuse happens only in poor family and its association with drugs or alcohol. In both my family members’ cases, they are educated, well-to-do and no drug or alcohol. Sigh… it can happen to anyone, any time, any where…

  • Swimming lessons

Finally coach Fazli from Kota Permai Golf & Country Club calls me. We have been waiting for 2 available ”seats” to kick start the kids’ swimming lesson. The kids simply love water. Little J will dip his head in the water and learns how to hold his breath and both of them will complete with each other, the person who can hold his breath longer will buy the other an icecream. They have been having fun every Sunday at club pool. During our recent trip snorkeling trip to Pangkor Laut, the kids had wanted to snorkel, but being a paranoid mum, I didn’t let them because they don’t know how to swim. Big J argued that they had the life jacket on, so it shouldn’t be a problem. They were so disappointed to stay on the boat while the others snorkel..

Okok.. we decided to let the kids with their swimming lesson and this coming Sat will be their first lesson. And ha.. we are planning for the next snorneling trip, hopefully they will get to dip in the deep blue sea this time :)

  • Music concert

Little J has been attending Yamaha Junior Music Class and he is in Book 3 now. Tonight, he has to perform 2 songs and he has been practising the songs for the past 2 weeks. Last night, he asked me if daddy will be able to attend his concert. He said that he will be very, very disappointed if daddy couldn’t make it. Hubby has just gotten a new contract and has been coming home late for the past week. I, too hope that he can make it to Little J’s concert.

  • Strong, unpleasant smell?

I was teaching Little J names of all kinds of vegetables and fruits using Smartbees, an E-Learning program which I subscribed for the children. Then I would use Besta, the electronic dictionary to explain to him the meaning of the words. Besta uses Oxford Advance Learner’s Dictionary and look at how Oxford defines Durian, my favorite fruit.

“A large tropical fruit with a strong unpleasant smell but a sweet flavour”

Unpleasant smell? To the Oxford publisher perhaps but to me, it has a very pleasant smell.. so goes the saying, “Beauty lies in the eyes of its beholder”..

  • Vitamin seller

I just found a new tuition center for Big J after surveying many centers at my housing area. This morning was his second time attending the class. When he got back, he showed me the enrollment form which the tutor asked him to fill up and I was supposed to sign my name.

At the column where he needs to fill in Mother’s occupation, he put “Vitamin Seller”.. LOL..
